Jack LaLanne – Back In the 80s
Jack LaLanne might be the lord of motivational quotes in the world of fitness. “Remember this: your body is your slave; it works for you.” or “…exercise is the catalyst. That’s what makes everything happen.” are among his most notable. He’s a classic among classics. Long before the 80s fitness wave became a thing, LaLanne was giving people health advice and teaching them how to work out.
When the 80s rolled around, he was not particularly young, but that didn’t stop him from squeezing into some spandex and riding the wave. And he continued to do what he always did best: teach people fitness and health, and, impressively, invent workout machines. Actually, despite the incongruent name, LaLanne is credited with inventing the Smith machine.
Jack LaLanne – Today
Jack LaLanne lived a healthy life and lived happily to the ripe old age of 96. He passed away from natural causes in 2011. Allegedly, he even had a great workout the day before his last, which is truly admirable and says something profound about the effects and benefits of living a healthy and active life.
LaLanne was a pioneer, and a true visionary; a man way ahead of his time. When health, sports, and nutrition sciences were a lot less advanced than they were in the 80s, LaLanne was already blazing a trail and ultimately helping to pave the way for the rest of the 80s spandex crew. In fact, he might even be one of the movement’s foundational, but sometimes overlooked pillars. Rest in peace Jack LaLanne, you deserve it.
