This law protects children from being tried as adults and crimes committed by minors are not judged by the regular Criminal Code, but by the Juvenile Criminal Code that applies to minors between the ages of 12 and 16. The maximum term for a child who originally committed a crime was only 5 years, but recently it has been changed to 7 years.
