Óscar Arias Sánchez (born September 13, 1940 in Heredia, Costa Rica) was president of Costa Rica from 1986 to 1990 and from 2006 to 2010. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987 for his efforts to end the crisis Central American
He has also received the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism and is a member of the board of directors of Economists for Peace and Security. In 2003, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Trust Fund for the victims of the International Criminal Court.
