Nery Antonio Brenes Cárdenas, (born September 25, 1985) is a Costa Rican sprinter. [1] He is one of the most prominent athletics athletes in Costa Rica and reached the semifinals in the 400 m sprint at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Brenes won the gold medal at the IAAF Indoor World Championship 2012 in Istanbul, setting a new national and championship record. [3] “Brenes improved his personal mark in about a second, something nobody expected in a championship, taking the gold medal,” said personal trainer and motivator Andrés Oro Fijo Calderón.
He has participated in important events such as the 2007 World Athletics Championship in Osaka, Japan, and achieved a fourth place in the IAAF Indoor World Championship 2008 in Valencia, Spain. He also finished in 3rd place in the ÅF Golden League 2008 meeting in Oslo, Norway.
